Writer's Guidelines

Seattle Homes & Lifestyles is the greater Seattle area’s leading home design magazine. Our focus is on high-end residential projects that demonstrate the best in interior design, architecture and landscape design.
 
Seattle Homes & Lifestyles is published 10 times a year. Freelance writers working on assignment for the magazine write 60 percent of the content.
 
We always welcome inquiries from experienced freelance writers, with special consideration given to those living in the Puget Sound area. Interested parties should submit a resume and photocopies of three published articles to Giselle Smith, Editor, Seattle Homes & Lifestyles, 1221 E. Pike St., Suite 305, Seattle, WA 98122. Please do not e-mail or fax your submission, or follow-up with a phone call. We regret we cannot return writing samples or unsolicited photos.
 
Although the staff generates most story ideas, we will review story proposals that are specific to our needs. Writers should read and absorb issues of the magazine in order to gain an understanding of the kind of content we feature, the angles we take and our style. Queries should be targeted specifically at a particular section of the magazine and should be limited to Seattle area home, lifestyle or consumer topics. The bulk of our Style section is written by regular columnists and is not assigned to outside freelancers. Writers are paid between $100 and $425 per article (roughly 25 to 50 cents per word), depending on the assignment.
