Sneak Peek
From opposite sides of the country, two of the world’s leading home furnishings trade shows—Westweek in West Hollywood and High Point Market in North Carolina—introduce new designs that will find their way to the Pacific Northwest

Westweek  |  March 26–27, 2008

Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood
After attending Westweek with the team from Susan Mills Showroom (206-682-6388), showroom manager Paula O’Fallon shared some highlights. “We’re really excited about RobinWood Deluxe, a new collection of outdoor furniture from Sutherland designed by Philippe Starck,” O’Fallon says. Crafted in teak and polished aluminum, pieces are named for characters in the Robin Hood legend.

Other Westweek introductions included the Toulouse club chair and sofa by Donghia. “If you’re familiar with Donghia, you know that they’re all about curvy silhouettes and upholstery that is absolute perfection,” O’Fallon explains. The manufacturer also launched Toretta and Obelisco, Venetian glass lamps “handblown by the glass maestros on Murano.”

The Seattle showroom manager was also impressed with custom Swarovski crystal wall murals by Maya Romanoff (available to the trade through Jane Piper Reid & Company, 206-621-9290).

High Point Market  |  April 7–13, 2008

High Point, North Carolina
Returning from her April visit to High Point, Polly Teeter, owner of Del-Teet Furniture in Bellevue (425-462-1500) called our attention to sustainable pieces from Los Angeles–based fine furniture maker Cisco Brothers (available to the trade through L. Greenberg & Associates, 206-768-1210). Teeter spoke highly of the company’s organic designs and new LEED-certified showroom.

Also at High Point Market was Michael Folks of Seattle’s Michael Folks Showroom (206-762-6776). Among his new favorites: the Julian sofa from O’Henry House. “This really smart-looking piece could be modified by designers any number of ways,” Folks says.
