Leaving Las Vegas
What happens in Vegas—comes straight to the Northwest. Trends in home furnishings that have made their debut in Sin City now make their way into the hands of local designers and hit the stands of Seattle’s shops. The City of Neon Lights shows us we can learn a thing or two when it comes to modern home design

LAS VEGAS MARKET -- January 28–February 1, 2008

The Las Vegas Market at World Market Center is a showcase for the home and hospitality furnishings industry. This year, more than 50,000 people attended the show with approximately 1,300 exhibitors. We spoke with Jason Hallman and Daniel Meltzer of Capitol Hill's Area 51 (401 E. Pine St., 206-568-4782), "A" Liengboonlertchai of Simplicity Décor (126 Park Lane, Kirkland, 425-803-0386), and Lori Pomeranz and Jon Milazzo of Retrofit Home (1419 12th Ave., 206-568-4663), to learn what trends are leaving Las Vegas and headed for the Pacific Northwest.

"Everyone was saying that blue is the new green."

Craftsmanship & Customization

Midrange pricing that reflects quality and craftsmanship is a growing trend according to Hallman and Meltzer of Area 51. "Before, you saw high-end and low-end—and nothing in the middle," Hallman says. The duo waxes poetic about a young Canadian firm, EQ3, whose line offers nearly 200 fabrics for highly customized interior style. (Click the images below for the slideshow).
